The Myths About Leadership are a serious matter.
Across the globe, there is an unprecedented need for leaders; leaders to pilot effective and great leadership strides. The world is in dire need of leaders. Put in another way, the world is suffering from a great dearth of leaders across spaces of political governance, corporate governance, and economic governance, in institutions, ministries, churches/mosques, etc.
This dearth in leadership raises the bar of leadership cum leading higher than the ordinary. This challenge assists me in placing a clarion call to leaders to emerge and move on to leadership development. The dearth helps me address the vague, the fuzzy, and the myths people hold about leadership.
- Wars, conflicts, strikes, and quarrels are all over the nations and places.
- Economic hardship is becoming normal even in our world of limitless abundance.
- Bad governance, sit-tight syndrome, and dictatorship are more commonplace than rare.
- Mismanagement, maladministration, and misappropriation are the new norms.
All these points lead to leadership failures/defects. Any time I talk to people on Leadership, Alternative dispute resolutions [ADR], Entrepreneurship, and Motivational, the myths people have about leadership show up;
- The majority feels leadership is vague – anything offered by a ruler, boss, or manager goes in as leadership, subjectively and instinctively okay.
- Many feel leadership is occupying a political position either in an appointed/elected capacity, administrative, managerial, or religious e.g. pastoral or imam, hence whatever they receive from such personality amounts to leading.
- Many think that they don’t have anything to do with leadership since they are not leading in any capacity in clubs, associations, churches, organizations,
- Many think that leadership development is aimed perhaps at developing them to become president, governor or such. If so be, thanks to God. But that is not the spirit and aim of leadership development.
- Some see leadership as ‘not being born a leader’ and ‘not being born to a leader’. One may be born a leader, but no one is a born leader. Leaders are developed [established in the character of a trade]. Leadership skills are learned. All skills are learned, talents are discovered, and abilities are enhanced and harnessed. The 3 can be sharpened.
- Many see leadership as something there; not here, something that is theirs; not ours. Very dangerous mindset!
The above challenges, in line with the purpose of God for my life, have made me devote my entire life to developing leaders in leadership skills, knowledge, and practice. When people are appropriately developed, growth and greatness will not be arithmetic but exponential, distinction and class, excellence with the grandeur, leaders will synergize easily and run their organizations sweatless and as in auto-piloting.
This is why Dr Mike Ihezuo developed this site, https://leadershiproundtablehq.com, i.e., to bring Leaders, Arbitration & ADR practitioners, Entrepreneurs, and Success Motivational.
