Career Advice on Data Sciences.
Introduction
Can I advise someone? Perhaps you! I am qualified to. I know. It is on a career. Which career do you prefer for your children or ward to study at the college or university level? Given you the responsibility to advise or guide, which ones make your list? What do you know about career trends in the world?
Time Past
There was a time when being a lawyer, medical doctor, and engineer was the tripod; the vogue. There was a time when it was an astronaut, architect, and accountant. At the time, professional studies tilted down to medical lab science, computer science, nursing, and journalism. The erotic name for them was professional courses. These courses are not entirely off today, still thriving.
But can you listen? I mean can you read me well? AI, Artificial Intelligence are removing humans from their desks and seats and replacing them with NOBODY.
Trends and Trending
Nations are commissioning driverless cars with passengers in America, Asia, and Europe. They are working on having pilotless planes with passengers. People are behind these developments – working out the new future. The new future will replace today’s present; in the same way today replaced yesterday. Most of the things in the present syllabubs of Medicine, Law, Accountancy, Science Laboratories, Engineering, Computer Science, Nursing, Architecture, etc. will not stand the needed content in the university education curriculum of these courses in the future. Can I tell you that over 80% of the present Accounting, Finance & Banking courses’ syllabuses are outdated without ICT? This is ICT, AI is coming with more injuries and blows. Secretarial Administrations or Office Technology Management is already outdated and is not relevant in any sane society.
Data in Decisioning
As AI replaces many things, data are driving many decisions. Data itself is the primary determinant of decisions to take, or to leads, get approvals, and acceptability. Big Data has just become more than a concept but a subject. This is because of volume of data generated in one day can be comparable to data generated in 20 years, 200 years back [ago].
A Research
An organization, The Data Scientist Job Market in 2024 conducted Research on 1,000 Job Postings. Their findings are revealing, in fact, a see-through. After the tech layoffs in 2023 in Silicon Valley and other places, and the emergence of ChatGPT, many thought the golden era of the “sexiest job in the 21st century” was over. But, not. Questionnaires and questions abound. There are 1,000 data scientist job postings, 872 responded, and were analyzed to reveal what skills employers are looking for and where the market is heading in 2024.The Data Scientist Job Market in 2024 [Research on 1,000 Job Postings]
What Skills Are Needed?
What skills and competencies does one need today to land a good job as a scientist?
But do these worries reflect the current state of the data scientist job market, or are they simply a short-lived reaction to broader economic challenges?
And why do we believe that acquiring data science skills today can be the golden ticket to a lucrative career everyone would be rushing for tomorrow?

Machine learning appears in 69% of job postings.
The demand for natural language processing skills has increased from 5% in 2023 to 19% in 2024.
Some data science positions require cloud certification, such as AWS (19.7%).
The average salary range for a data scientist is $160,000–$200,000 annually.
The New Paradigm
…: Sciences
The study of data has become an issue, leading to different specialties like Data Science, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Big Data, and Artificial Intelligence. Others close to it are Data Protection and Cyber Security, Data Visualization & Cloud Computing, Networking & System Administration, Data Base Administration, Mobile App Development, Software and Website Development.
…: Arts
On some hard skills in Arts like Law, and Journalism, they are not spared. They are also driven by data. Law is under heavy contention with Alternative Dispute Resolutions. People are trying to stay away from trouble or forego it rather than subjecting themselves to rigmarole in litigations. They prefer to use Alternative Dispute Resolutions which encompasses Arbitration, and Mediation, where Conciliation and Negotiation are subsumed in Mediation. Journalism is near elimination by Social Media journalism – and social media reporters are getting super results – becoming millionaires while media house journalists are not getting poorer.
…: Soft Skills
The next group is soft skills merchants – leadership, communications, effectiveness, teamwork, etc. It has proven that you can succeed without hard skills but you can’t succeed without soft skills, either as a corporate entity or individual. Ask Consulting firms.
So, are you still asking your ward or child to go and read outdated courses?
