This is 8 habits of low-lifers who never move forward or put another way 8 habits of low-quality people who never move forward in life.
There’s a stark disparity between people who progress in life and those who don’t. The difference is clear. The difference is ….? Habits.
Habits make people. Do you remember the book written by Victor Hansen & Co, called The Power of Focus? Chapter One of that book is Habit. The difference maker is all about habits, good or bad. Bad habits, held by low-quality people, keep them stuck in one place, preventing them from moving forward, yet allowing them to criticize every Dick and Tom for their condition.
In this post, let me outline 8 such habits of low-quality people who never seem to move forward in life.
Maybe you know somebody in this condition or you, get this post to the person. Have it if you’re interested in identifying and breaking free from these self-limiting behaviours again for you or someone. They are;
- They dwell on their past ALWAYS
You see, we all make mistakes. It’s a part of our life unavoidably. However, low-quality lifers have a flair for dwelling on their yesterday, their past.
They tend to get caught up in their past failures, never allowing themselves to move forward. This fixation on what went wrong, instead of focusing on how to make things right, keeps them stuck in a loop of regrets and negativity.
It’s as if they’re trying to drive forward in a car while constantly looking in the rearview mirror. And we all know how that ends. Can’t you see the difficulty and risk?
Psychologists call this act, rumination, a mental habit that can lead to severe emotional distress. Instead of learning from their past which is not entirely bad and using it as a stepping stone towards progress, they allow it to consume them and become an obstacle to them.
Sigmund Freud, the father of psychoanalysis, was right when he said, “Out of your vulnerabilities will come your strength.”
- They avoid being RESPONSIBLE
Habit #2 I’ve noticed among low-quality lifers or people is their constant evasion of responsibility. They run away from taking responsibility of their situation. They evade responsibility. They are quick to blame others for their misfortunes, never acknowledging their role in the situation.
Look at this: Mr. K was always late. Late for work, late for meetings, late for social gatherings. But instead of Mr. K owning up to his unpunctuality, he would always blame it on traffic, his alarm not going off, or some other external factor.
These days government doesn’t blame their incompetence, they blame it on the former government – evading responsibility.
It seemed like Mr. K was never at fault in his eyes, and so were stupid governments. This avoidance of responsibility kept Mr. K and the irresponsible government from recognizing and addressing the real issue – his poor time management and incompetence respectively.
Again, the renowned psychologist Carl Jung said, “Knowing your darkness is the best method for dealing with the darkness of other people.”
Recognizing and owning up to our shortcomings is a crucial step towards personal growth and moving forward in life. Let’s take it seriously. We are still talking of 8 Habits of low-lifers who never move forward.
- They have a negative outlook & VIEWPOINT
One of the most defining traits of low-quality lifers is their negative outlook on life. They view the glass of water as half-empty instead of half-full, always focusing on the problems rather than the solutions. They look at only six instead of half a dozen.
The importance of cultivating a positive mindset in achieving personal growth and inner peace cannot be overemphasized.
Yet, these individuals tend to focus on what’s wrong with their lives, often exaggerating their issues and overlooking their blessings. This negativity clouds their vision, prevents them from seeing opportunities, and hinders their progress.
- They lack and hate SELF-DISCIPLINE
Hear it and hear it well: discipline is key to success. Psychologists agree that self-discipline is a key trait of successful individuals. Unfortunately, low-quality people often lack this essential quality. No successful person prides himself on indiscipline.
Self-discipline, the chief discipline involves the ability to control one’s feelings and overcome weaknesses. It’s the driving force that helps us resist harmful impulses, and procrastination, and maintain focus on long-term goals. It is however, those who struggle to move forward often show a pattern of impulsiveness and immediate gratification. They opt for short-term pleasure over long-term gain, which eventually leads to regret and stagnation.
Psychologist Roy F. Baumeister mentions in his book “Willpower: Rediscovering the Greatest Human Strength,” that self-discipline is like a muscle. The more you use it, the stronger it gets. The reverse is true also.
So, start flexing that discipline muscle and pave your way to progress. Continue 8 Habits of Low-lifers Who Never Move Forward on Part 02.
